When you create a new record, certain fields are required. Without data in these fields, the record cannot be written to the server. Required fields are identified by a red bar at the left.
The system also uses the red marker to draw attention if the value entered is invalid for the type of field, i.e., a number entered in a field that only accepts alpha characters.
